Continuing on my line of H.P. Lovecraft's "Cthulhu" themed artifacts, a new wall sculpture is in its earliest stages. It will depict the creature in his often-depicted resting position. I sometimes make some pretty rough hasty concept sketches, and this one shown here is no exception, but it's enough to give myself an idea of what I want to aim for.
The figure of Cthulhu will be in a fairly elevated relief over the background tablet which will be heavily aged and weathered, as though recovered from an ancient archeological dig. The tablet will also feature a series petroglyphs throughout. Of course many aspects may (and often do) change during the sculpting process to tweak things along the way. Like for example, as evidenced in the above rough sketch, the outer shape of the edge of the tablet isn't quite realized and has been revised (and probably will be again) in the initial sculpt seen below.
The final piece will measure approximately 9-inches tall with a nearly 2-inch depth.
Keep checking back for updates down the line.
